The choice of comb and wooden hair brush is crucial for the beauty of your hair. Often, in fact, you only care about the type of shampoo, conditioner or masks to use, and you overlook the fact that, instead, if you do not choose the brush best suited to our hair type, the result will be unsatisfactory regardless of the products used to wash it.
You have to consider, in fact, that the beauty of the hair depends on the health of the scalp, which needs to be massaged to stimulate blood circulation, so you have shinier, shinier, healthier hair and make it grow faster.
Brushing your hair carefully can overcome the most common problems such as dandruff, dryness or oily hair. Shampoo products alone are not enough, just as, of course, a good brush is not enough. You need to find the perfect combination of products to use to wash and care for your hair and combs and brushes to fix your hairstyle.
How to choose comb and brush
The comb is usually used when the hair is wet, to untangle the knots as best as possible, however, for those with curly hair, it is recommended instead of the brush. With naturally curly or permed hair, it is almost impossible to use a brush, otherwise you risk making it too bulky or even frizzy. You should therefore choose combs with wide, strictly wooden teeth, because it is antistatic. Plastic combs, which would turn hair electric, are banned.
For those with very short hair, however, a rectangular brush with short teeth is recommended. For long and bulky hair, instead, the brush must have longer teeth. The rule is that you should be able to brush well not only the hair in length, but also the scalp, so as to massage it by performing a kind of peeling that helps to remove dandruff, sebum, dust and dead hair, making it a healthy and clean environment.
For thin hair, the brush must have soft bristles, for thick hair, however, it is better that the bristles are less flexible, otherwise they do not reach the scalp.
How to use the brush
The hair should always be brushed from above (i.e. from the scalp) downwards (to the ends). We must brush twice a day: in the morning, upside down, to reactivate the circulation and remove the knots that could be done during the night; in the evening, before going to sleep, another brush from the forehead to the tips, massaging the scalp for a relaxing and regenerating effect.
It should be remembered that in order to effectively brush the hair and scalp, the bristles must first of all be natural, they must also be uneven in length and each tuft of bristles must be well spaced so that they are easier to clean.
In addition to the bristles, attention must also be paid to the handle, which must be made of wood or horn and easy to grip to simplify the hairstyle.
Maintenance of comb and brush
The brush and comb must also always be clean, like makeup brushes. You must always remove all the hair that remains attached, then, at least once a month, wash it.
For combs, of course, it’s easier, but for brushes, you have to do it this way: wash it with a neutral or mild shampoo (depending on the type of bristles) under running water, using a toothbrush to clean well between the tufts of natural bristles, then, after rinsing it well removing any residual soap, leave it to dry with the bristles downwards on a towel, making sure that the water drips downwards and does not ruin the wooden base.
Tips to take care of your hair
In order not to ruin the hair, remember not to brush it immediately after washing, because damp hair is fragile and risks breaking: this happens because under water the keratin flakes that cover the hair shaft rise up, and the natural protective barrier is broken. The ideal thing to do is to gently dab your hair with a towel on leaving the shower, dry it with a hair dryer and brush it only when it is well dry. To eliminate knots, the comb is the best solution, to be used first on the tips (because it is the area where most knots form) and then on the lengths up to the roots – never start from the roots first -.
