May 2015 In Print – Running Room Magazine
Our family is thrilled to be featured in the May 2015 issue of Running Room Magazine for their Active Family Profile. I wrote about how we are encouraging our kids to embrace the fun side of being active as a family.
We have been running together since our youngest was four and this photo was our first family 5km. At that young of an age we did have to carry her a good part of the run, but that made it even more fun. We still enjoy running together, but now that child we once carried, runs WAY faster than us!

Stuart Lowther used his background in nutritional sciences to found Life Science Nutritionals and develop their first product, IronKids, in 2005. Profit Magazine recently recognized the company as the fastest-growing company in greater Toronto area and the second-fastest growing company in Canada.
The Lowthers know raising healthy kids isn’t just about vitamins. “It’s also about getting out and being active,” says Deb, who blogs about her family at raisinghealthykids.co. The Lowthers have become known at community events as the active vitamin family. Their three daughters have participated in at least 10 triathlons (IronKids is a sponsor of the Tri KiDS triathlon series for kids age 3-15), and Stuart and Deb completed a half-Ironman triathlon in 2013.
Building a healthy-lifestyle brand was important to Stuart. He and Deb are proud that they can use their IronKids brand to inspire children to lead active, healthy lifestyles, through both proper nutrition and participate in sports. Read the rest of the article here.

Lauren LaRose of Canadian Press recently interviewed me about raising active kids and our family was honoured to be a part of this article that emphasizes the need for more play to keep kids active, and not just enrolling kids in more organized sports. Article has appeared in newspapers and online across Canada.

HAMILTON — As children gear up to participate in sports leagues and camps this summer, experts say it’s important to ensure time is also devoted for youngsters to enjoy less structured outdoor, active play.
Deb Lowther is an avid runner, and both she and her husband, Stuart, participated in a half Ironman triathlon last year. Whether they’re hiking, skiing or taking a dip in the backyard pool, being active is a pivotal part of family life for both parents and kids.
Still, the girls are also afforded the chance to take part in less structured play. Lowther said they keep the garage stocked with hula hoops, skipping ropes, basketballs, bikes and other equipment to help keep the kids moving. >>>Read Full Article Hamilton Spectator
