When you think of oatmeal you picture a bowl of piping hot oats on a cold winter morning, but with all the health benefits of rolled oats, why not try this Perfect Summertime Oatmeal.Who knew you could eat oatmeal cold right out of the fridge . . . and it tastes great!
Making these Oatmeal Packets ahead of time means you have on-the-go oatmeal ready in minutes. You can either add 1/2 cup of boiling water to make that hot oatmeal you are used to OR you can add 1/4 cup of yogurt and 1/3 cup of cold milk and put it all in the fridge to enjoy the next morning for breakfast. It is really that easy.
How to make Summertime No Cook, Refrigerator Oatmeal
1/3 cup rolled oats
1 tbsp oat bran
1 tsp chia seeds, hemp hearts, ground flax, wheat germ AND/OR bran
1/2 tsp cocoa powder, cinnamon OR brown sugar
Sprinkle of dried blueberries, cranberries, cherries, raisons, apricots, mangos or dates chopped into small pieces
coconut, chopped almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds or chocolate chips (why not!)
Combine everything in single serve snack snack plastic bags or small mason jars. I make at least 12 at a time and store all in a large ziplock bag.
Pour contents of packet into a bowl or mason jar
Add 1/3 cup of milk (almond, rice or cows)
1/4 cup of any flavour yogurt
Stir or shake well. Place in the refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight and enjoy. It really is that good.
