Best Smoothie Recipe: Iced Mocha Protein Frosty

iced_mocha_protein_frosty-impIs it breakfast, an iced coffee or an ice cream treat? This smoothie is so good, it deserves its’ decadent name: Iced Mocha Protein Frosty. It is a healthy meal, a post exercise recovery drink and a dessert all in one!

For mornings when you are on the go and want to grab a filling smoothie, or after a workout when you need to replace energy stores and have protein to repair muscle tissue, or at the end of the day when you deserve a healthy treat, whip up an Iced Mocha Protein Frosty Smoothie.

The almond milk provides calcium and essentials nutrients, the protein powder keeps you feeling full, the yogurt makes it creamy and adds a touch of sweetness, the banana adds potassium, while the coffee just sends this blender creation into mocha heaven.

(Not a coffee fan? Not to worry – both this and the perfect Skinny Vanilla Bean Frosted Latte recipe below taste great without the coffee ice cubes.)

The next time you make a pot of coffee, pour 3 cups into a large glass measuring cup to cool. Once cool, fill 2 ice cube trays with coffee and freeze. Once frozen store the cubes in a re sealable bag in the freezer and they are ready to add to your Iced Mocha Protein Frosty.  You can even freeze the greek yogurt in an ice cube tray and add 2 frozen yogurt cubes to the blender for added frozen goodness.

For a Vanilla variation of this smoothie use vanilla protein powered in place of the chocolate and omit the cocoa powder. A little vanilla extract and this turns into a Vanilla Bean Latte alternative. If you are not a coffee lover, you can leave out the 3 coffee ice cubes, it tastes great both ways!
