Lazy Girls Guide to Perfect Oatmeal: Oatmeal-To-Go

Oatmeal is one of the perfect health foods and a new study has revealed even more reasons to make it a part of your morning routine. A whole grain, rich in fibre, protein and vitamins, oatmeal is a great breakfast to kick start your day with energy or re fuel after a big workout. I do enjoy a nice hot bowl of oatmeal, but standing at the stove, adding the right amount of water, waiting for it to cook but not get glumpy – or worse, watery – is just too much work. I usually give up before I start.

Buying those boxes of small packets I just can’t do – usually an over processed oat is used that ‘cooks’ quick but lacks the nutrition of rolled or steel cut oats. Most also contain artificial flavours and sweeteners to make them taste good.

Empty snack bag contents into a bowl
Cover contents with boiling water
Wait 5 minutes and enjoy perfect oatmeal


How To Make Oatmeal To-Go

Main ingredients:
Rolled Oats
Oat bran

Healthy Add Ins:oatmeal_to_go-imp
Chia seeds
Hemp Hearts
Wheat Germ
Bran
Omega Crunch Flax Seed – Cinnamon, Maple Walnut or both**

Flavours:
Cinnamon
Cocoa powder
Esspresso
Brown sugar -optional

Fruit & Nuts:
Dried blueberries, cranberries, cherries, raisons
Dried apricots, mangos, dates chopped into small pieces
Coconut, chopped almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds

Oatmeal_to_go2-impTo Make – assemble the following in a snack bag, and make lots!

1/3 cup Rolled Oats
1 tbsp Oat bran
1 tsp of your favorite Add In (or all of them)
¼ – ½tsp of your favorite flavour
Fruit and nuts as desired

Zip up and store in a resealable bag or container and show the kids how easy it is to make. Put the kettle on, put oats in a bowl, cover the oats with boiling water and within 5 minutes you have perfect oatmeal every time.
